UPDATE!! (11/13/06) I am in the midst of changing my website and hosting server, so this site may be offline during the process of setting up the new site. Check back soon at www.lynnemedsker.com for progress and a BRAND NEW LOOK!
Using the mediums of digital art, photography, acrylics, mixed media collage and welded metal art I create, blend and combine individual elements into unique multi-layered images. Color, light, shapes, patterns, words, music, people, nature, emotions – LIFE – all serve as inspiration for my artwork.
I began my creative pursuits with photography, shooting most images simply because the detail in front of my lens begged to be photographed! My curiosity led to experimenting with alternate films/processes, hand-painting photos, Polaroid transfers and emulsion lifts and finally digitally enhancing/altering photos. Springing from photo manipulation my pursuit and passion for digital art blossomed. While digitally creating or altering an image the ideas and questions that continually run through my mind frequently take me in directions that even I don’t anticipate! As I hand-colored photos I discovered a love for working with paint and paper. I thoroughly enjoy the sensory, "hands on" experience of physically assembling a piece of art! I often use letters, words or text in my images and have recently begun to use more recycled/found objects in my collage work. I also assemble welded art pieces with my husband, Mark, using a variety of metal objects.
I have displayed my work at a mixture of solo and group gallery exhibits and have participated in numerous local, national and international competitions, art shows, and fairs. I have been awarded grants from the Indiana Arts Commission in 2003, to explore Polaroid art, and in 2005 for digital art. In 2006 I won the blue ribbon for creative/experimental professional photography at the Indiana State Fair. Along with my interest in photographic and digital art, painting, creating collage pieces and welded art I enjoy writing poetry and working in my portrait studio where I infuse photo images with an artistic style.
Being very visual, there is a constant jumble of images and ideas darting around my mind that have yet to fully take form. I am excited to see which one will spring to life next!
